Seasons Center Hosts 4th Annual We are Family Summit
September 14 @ 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm
Seasons Center will be hosting a virtual Foster and Adoptive Summit in September 2020 to support foster and adoptive families.
The 4th Annual We are Family Summit will be hosted virtually this year, in order to protect the health and safety of presenters and attendees. This year’s summit will include two opportunities for attendees: Monday, September 14th and Monday, September 21st, both from 6:30pm – 7:30pm. The topic of both opportunities will be Navigating Birth Family Relationships. Presenters will include Nikki VanGinkel, LISW, MSW – Director of Family Support Services at Seasons, and Sherri Huizenga, CADC, LBSW – Permanency Support Specialist at Seasons.
Night one (September 14th) will include educational and clinical information on the best practices for navigating birth family relationships as foster or adoptive parents.
Night two (September 21st), the presenters will be joined by an adoptive family panel who will share their personal story, struggles, and successes in navigating an open adoptive relationship.
“Establishing health relationships between birth families and foster/adoptive families can be complex but is so critical to the long-term health and wellness of the child,” said Ms. VanGinkel. “After interviewing dozens of birth, foster, and adoptive families, we received requests for training opportunities to support this important issue. We are grateful to the families who will be sharing their story and look forward to continuing to partner with our communities to families of all backgrounds.”
