SUMMARY:Hunter Safety Course at Oak Grove Park
DESCRIPTION:A free Iowa DNR hunter safety course will be offered at Oak Grove Park for ages 11 and over on Tuesday\, Aug 13th  from 9:00 am-7:00 pm. \nParticipants will be instructed on safe gun handling\, laws\, wildlife management\, outdoor safety\, archery\, muzzleloading\, and ethics.  The day will include shooting shotgun\, rifle\, and archery with certified hunter safety instructors. \nParticipants must pre-register online at www.register-ed.com.  A limited number of people will be taken.  In addition to attending the full course and passing the written test\, participants must also fill out review questions and bring them into class.  You will receive an email after you register\, with the materials needed. \nCall Sunday Ford at 712-552-3057 with any questions.

SUMMARY:Perseid Meteor Shower
DESCRIPTION:The Perseid Meteor Shower is one of the best known meteor showers in the Northern Hemisphere.  It will soon be time again for this annual event.  The earth’s orbit is crossing into the debris path of the Swift-Tuttle comet which last passed through the inner solar system over 20 years ago.  The shower gradually builds to a peak of about 60 meteors an hour. \nAlthough the best time to view this magnificent event is just before dawn\, the O’Brien County Conservation Board will be hosting a Perseid Meteor Shower party on Tuesday\, August 13 beginning at 8:00 p.m.  Come to the Prairie Heritage Center to learn more about meteors and summer constellations. Bring a blanket or lawn chair and spend some time enjoying the summer night sky.  Enjoy the sunset on the prairie\, check out the stars as they begin to come out and stay for the meteor show. \nFor more information\, contact the Conservation Board at 712-295-7200.
