DESCRIPTION:Youth Mental Health First Aid for Foster and Adoptive Families and Workers\nFree Child Care offered to Training Attendees!\nThursday\, April 1 from 8-3:30\nDordt Agricultural Stewardship Center (3648 US 75 Ave\, Sioux Center\, IA 51250)\nRegistration Link: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/137695534049\nCOVID-19 NOTICE: MASKS ARE REQUIRED FOR ALL PARTICIPANTS INCLUDING CHILDREN! Distancing will be in place\, symptom screening and temp checks will be in place prior to being granted entry to event. \nTRAINING PORTION OF EVENT\nYouth Mental Health First Aid is designed to teach parents\, family members\, caregivers\, teachers\, school staff\, peers\, neighbors\, health and human services workers\, and other caring citizens how to help an adolescent (age 12-18) who is experiencing a mental health or addictions challenge or is in crisis. Youth Mental Health First Aid is primarily designed for adults who regularly interact with young people. The course introduces common mental health challenges for youth\, reviews typical adolescent development\, and teaches a 5-step action plan for how to help young people in both crisis and non-crisis situations. Topics covered include anxiety\, depression\, substance use\, disorders in which psychosis may occur\, disruptive behavior disorders (including AD/HD)\, and eating disorders. \nThis training will occur in two parts:\nA 2-hour self-paced module which you will gain access to via Adam Lybarger\nA 6.5-hour in-person training occurring April 1\, 2021 \nSocial Work CEUs will be available. We are currently waiting for approval for Foster/Adoptive Parent CEUs. Reach out to Taylor Prather at tprather@seasonscenter.org to inquire about CEUs. \nCHILD CARE PORTION OF EVENT\nSeasons will be offering FREE respite (child) care for any parent who attends this training. Activities will vary based on the child’s age. Minimum age for child care eligibility is 4 years old. Child must be potty trained. Parents will be required to complete a brief child profile on each child attending the child care portion of this event. This paperwork will be emailed to relevant attendees and can be completed prior to the event OR can be completed in person the day of the event. Please plan to arrive to this event 10 minutes early if you opt to complete this paperwork day of.
