SUMMARY:Art Exhibit at Northwestern College
DESCRIPTION:Artwork by faculty in Northwestern College’s department of art and design is on display in the Te Paske Gallery through Feb. 27. \nThe three-person exhibit features photographic transfers on paper by Phil Scorza\, chalk pastel drawings and acrylic paintings by Meghan Charbonneau\, and ceramic sculptures by Amy Williams. It marks the first time each artist has shown this collection of their creative work in a gallery setting—and the first time they have exhibited artwork together. \nScorza serves as a professor of art and design and department chair at NWC\, where he teaches graphic design and photography. He has a bachelor’s degree in graphic design from Iowa State University and Master of Fine Arts from Lesley University College of Art and Design. Prior to joining Northwestern’s faculty\, he worked as a graphic designer and creative director for more than 20 years\, both in the corporate world and as a freelancer. \nCharbonneau\, an assistant professor of art at NWC\, holds a bachelor’s degree in studio art from Iowa State University and a Master of Fine Arts degree in painting and drawing from Washington State University. Her art has received numerous awards at juried shows in states that include Washington\, Connecticut\, Wisconsin and Ohio. \nWilliams is an adjunct instructor of art who teaches sculpture and ceramics at Northwestern. She earned her Master of Fine Arts degree in ceramics from California State University\, Long Beach\, and previously taught at George Fox University in Oregon. \nNorthwestern’s Te Paske Gallery is located in the Korver Visual Arts Center\, on Highway 10 at 214 8th Street SW in Orange City. Gallery hours are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays.

SUMMARY:Former NCAA Coach Mark Potter Speaking At Northwestern College
DESCRIPTION:Mark Potter\, former head men’s basketball coach at Newman University\, will speak about mental health issues at Northwestern College Feb. 10–12. \nOn Monday\, Feb. 10\, at 7 p.m. in Christ Chapel\, Potter will share his personal story of overcoming severe depression at the height of his coaching career. In addition to providing education about the symptoms of depression and where to find support\, he will also identify practical ways to train both the mind and body to reach their full potential. \nPotter will also give the chapel message Tuesday\, Feb. 11\, at 11:05 a.m. in Christ Chapel\, and will be featured in a Northwestern NED Talk Wednesday\, Feb. 12\, at 10:05 a.m. in the Vogel Community Room of the DeWitt Learning Commons. All events are free and open to the public. \nThe winningest coach in the history of Newman University’s men’s basketball program\, Potter has 30 years of head coaching experience and has been named one of the top 15 most influential people in the Wichita\, Kansas\, sports world. In his 19 seasons at Newman\, Potter led the Jets to their final three NAIA tournament appearances and\, after Newman athletics earned Division II status\, to the program’s only NCAA tournament appearance. A member of the Cowley College and Newman University halls of fame\, Potter has given nearly 300 talks at businesses\, middle schools\, high schools and colleges across the country since retiring from coaching in 2017. \nFor more information\, visit Potter’s website at d2up.org.
