SUMMARY:The BIG (Build Innovate and Grow) Challenge
DESCRIPTION:The economic development organizations in northwest Iowaare teamming up to offer $10\,000 in prize money for The BIG Challenge grant competition. \nThe BIG Challenge encourages entreprenuers to Build\, Innovate and Grow their business in northwest Iowa. The contest gives entreprenuers and small business owners the opportunity to submit their dreams to start\, or expand a business and then encourage friends\, family and customers to vote for them online. The finalists will present their idea to an audience and judges in a pitch-off event for a chance to win thousands in cash prizes. \nFrom now until September 28th\, entreprenuers in Lyon\, Monoa\, O’Brien\, Osceola\, Plymoth\, Sioux and Woodbury Counties can visit www.iawestcoast.com and click on “The BIG Challenge” to submit their business\, or startup ideas. \nVoting on the submitted ideas will take place on October 1st through October 10th. During the voting period\, the entreprenuer will recruit others to vote for their entry online. The top three  vote-getters will advance to a regional pitch-off competition\, along with two additional entrants chosen by a selection committee. Each finalist will receive personalized coaching from the University of Northern Iowa’s John Pappajohn Entrepreneurial Center. \nThe regional contest will be helo the evening of Thursday\, November 20th\, in Le Mars at the Wells Visitor Center and Ice Cream Parlor (115 Central Ave. NW). That evening the finalists will have the opportunity to showcase their ideas with first place receiving $5\,000\, second place receiving $3\,000 and third place receiving $2\,000 to grow their business.

SUMMARY:Water main flushing in the City of Sheldon
DESCRIPTION:The Sheldon Water Department will be performing routine flushing of the water mains in your area on September 10th and September 11th between the hours of 11 p.m. and 7 a.m. \nThis essential maintenance is necessary to: clear the mains of built-up mineral deposits and sediment\, ensure the proper operation of fire hydrants for public safety and help maintain overall water quality throughout the system. \nDuring the flushing period\, you may experience temporary discolored water. This is caused by the mineral sediment being stirred up in the water mains. It is harmless\, but may stain laundry. You will also experience a slight drop in water pressure. This is normal and temporary. You may also see utility workers operating fire hydrants in your neighborhood. \nTo minimize any inconvenience\, the City of Sheldon recommends the following: before the flushing begins if you need to do laundry\, finish it before the scheduled time. During the flushing: Avoid using hot water and minimize your overall water use\, especially for laundry. \nAfter the flushing is complete run the cold water tap nearest to your water meter (typically in a basement utility sink\, or an outside spigot) for several minutes until it runs clear. If your water still appears discolored\, wait 15 to 30 minutes for the sediment to settle and then flush the cold water again. Once the cold water is clear\, you can flush your hot water heater by running the hot water taps until the water runs clear. The City of Sheldon apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your patience and cooperation as they perform this vital work.
