Volunteers are invited to help with setup on the east side of City Park. \nAll times are weather‑dependent. Updates will be shared on our website and through the Avenue of Flags Facebook page.

DESCRIPTION:Families are invited to cast a line and enjoy an afternoon outdoors during the Free Family Fishing Event: Reel Fun for the Whole Family on Sunday\, June 14\, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Stolley Park in Spencer. \nThis free community event is designed for all ages and experience levels – from first-time anglers to seasoned fishing enthusiasts. Participants are encouraged to bring their own fishing equipment if they have it\, but rods\, reels\, and supplies will also be available for those who need them. Friendly volunteers from the Iowa Great Lakes Fishing Club will be on hand to help teach the basics and make the experience enjoyable for everyone. \nEvery child who attends will receive a free rod and reel combo courtesy of the Iowa Great Lakes Fishing Club\, valued at $79 (while supplies last). \nEvent Schedule: \n\n1:45 – 200: Registration\n2:00 – 2:30: Casting Contest & Educational Stations\n2:30 – 4:00: Fishing Event – Catch & Release\n4:00: Prizes & Meal\n\nPrizes will be awarded for the biggest catch in each species category\, as well as the biggest fish overall.

Guests are asked to bring a dish to share; tableware and drinks will be provided. \nA nationally recognized Quilt of Valor will be presented to three veterans during the evening. At 7 p.m.\, the community will gather on Main Street for a group photo featuring 250 people waving flags. All are welcome to take part in this historic moment. \nThe event is hosted by the American Legion\, Legion Auxiliary and Sons of the American Legion.
