DESCRIPTION:The community of Melvin will celebrate its 125th Anniversary the weekend of June 19th through 21st with three days of events for all ages. \nFriday’s schedule includes a pop‑up shop from 3 to 4 p.m. at the Melvin Civic Center\, a Historical Cemetery Walk at 6 and 8 p.m.\, a community supper from 5 to 7 p.m. outside the fire station\, Mini Golf Around Melvin from 5 to 8 p.m.\, live music by Shawn Mayer at JR’s Bar at 7 p.m.\, and fireworks at dusk at De Graaf County Park. \nSaturday features a 9-10 a.m. pop‑up shop\, a 10 a.m. parade on Main Street\, food and beverage vendors at De Graaf County Park beginning at 11 a.m.\, a farm equipment show\, sand volleyball at 1 p.m.\, the All School Reunion at the American Legion\, face painting\, yard games\, a bean bag tournament\, a car show\, a kids’ tractor pedal pull\, inflatables\, church open houses\, and live music from Audrea and the Machine from 4 to 7 p.m. and the Jeremy DeWall Band from 8 p.m. to midnight. \nSunday includes a 10 a.m. community worship service at Melvin American Lutheran Church\, a noon pop‑up shop\, Battle of the Barrel water fights at 1 p.m. on Main Street\, a foam party from 12 to 2 p.m.\, food and beverages at JR’s Bar from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.\, and Sherry’s Kitchen from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. \nOther weekend activities include Melvin’s Big Chair\, a visitor map\, a self‑guided history tour\, Adopt‑A‑Spot displays\, a memory wall and slideshow\, and a commemorative whiskey auction.

SUMMARY:VNU Panthers Pep Rally and Send-Off to the 2026 Special Olympics USA Games
DESCRIPTION:Village Northwest Unlimited is inviting the community to a pep rally and send-off for the Village Panthers volleyball team\, which will represent Team Iowa at the 2026 Special Olympics USA Games. \nThe event begins at 9:30 a.m. on Friday\, June 19th\, in the Wansink Center gym on the Village campus. After the rally\, supporters will line the circle driveway around campus and North 18th Avenue to send them off to this national event. \nThe Panthers\, a volleyball team made up of athletes served by Village Northwest Unlimited\, were selected to represent Iowa at the Games. They will join fellow athletes and unified partners from across the nation to compete at one of Special Olympics’ highest levels. Nine Panther athletes will attend the Games to showcase their volleyball skills\, coached by Sara Wolthuizen and Deb Middle. \nThe 2026 Special Olympics USA Games will be held June 20th through June 26th at the University of Minnesota\, bringing over 3\,000 athletes from all 50 states. This marks the second time a Village Northwest Unlimited team has competed at the national level; the Panther softball team earned a silver medal at the 2012 Games in Oklahoma City.

DESCRIPTION:Sheldon Community Schools will offer a free Summer Lunch Program from June 1st through August 14th at East Elementary. \nMeals will be served Monday through Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.\, and families are asked to use the north door when arriving. \nChildren 18 and under eat free\, and busing is available at in‑town bus stops.
