SUMMARY:Art Exhibit at Northwestern College
DESCRIPTION:Northwestern College is opening its 2024–25 art exhibit season with a show by South Dakota artist Molly Wicks. \nTitled “Phases for Now\,” Wicks’ exhibit is on display through Oct. 17\, with a public reception with the artist scheduled for Thursday\, Sept. 26\, at 5 p.m. \nWicks’ artwork features suspended plexiglass\, metal and canvas on which she has cut out or painted organic shapes inspired by sedimentary layers\, fungus and mold forms. The paint and cutouts create refractions and shadows\, and her use of vibrant colors produce both tension and harmony. \nThe media she employs include oil paint on board\, acrylic paint on canvas\, nail polish on plexiglass\, and copper cutouts. \nWicks is a graduate of the University of Minnesota who earned her Master of Fine Arts degree in drawing\, sculpture and painting from Washington State University. She has taught in the Minneapolis Public School District\, at Washington State University\, and for South Dakota State University (SDSU). \nLarge projects by Wick are in the permanent collection of Johns Hopkins University and SDSU. Her artwork has also been exhibited in Florida\, Idaho\, North Dakota\, Ohio\, Oregon\, Texas and Washington. She has also held residencies at the Vermont Studio Center and at the Art Farm in Marquette\, Nebraska. \nNorthwestern’s Te Paske Gallery is located in the Korver Visual Arts Center\, on Highway 10 at 214 8th Street SW in Orange City. Gallery hours are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays.

This exhibit is open to the public and free to attend\, offering a splendid array of watercolor artworks from talented artists across Iowa. \nCome to Northwestern College on October 18th at 6:30 p.m.\, NWC Vogel Room (NWC DeWitt Library\, 2nd Floor) for a reception and special ‘The Art of Watercolor’ talk by renowned watercolor artist Judy Thompson. This event is a unique opportunity to gain insights into the world of watercolor painting from an expert in the field. Free will donation. Light refreshments will be served. Reception is open 6-8 pm.

DESCRIPTION:Join Sandy Hollow for a fun evening of Trick or Treating. Ages 12-years-old-and-under are invited to Trick or Treat in costume. The campground will be full of campers with friendly faces at each campsite and of course there will be candy and goodies. The Praire Woods Nature Center will also be open! \nIf you would like to be a camper\, campers can register by phone only ony Sept. 3 starting at 8 a.m.\, or by calling 712-552-1047. You will need to provide candy for between 600 and 800 kids in exchange for free campoing on Oct. 13th and Oct. 14th. \nTrick or Treating is from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. No preregistration for Trick or Treating is needed.
