SUMMARY:Wings and Wetlands Festival
DESCRIPTION:O’Brien County Conservation is planning a great line-up of events to celebrate the annual multi-county Wings and Wetlands Festival.  Each year several northwest Iowa counties cooperate to celebrate the return of spring to Northwest Iowa.  All of the events in O’Brien County will take place on Saturday\, May 11 this year. \nBegin your day at 7:30 am with a light breakfast at the Prairie Heritage Center.  Then\, hit the trail in search of migrating songbirds.  On a short walk to the river\, over 30 different species can usually be counted.  The group will then carpool to Wanata Park in Peterson to add some woodland birds to their list. \nAt 11:00 am\, come to the Prairie Heritage Center to take part in a “Cat Tail Weave.”  This event is next session in the “Nature’s Art” activities.  Participants will make a mat to take home as they learn about birds and other animals in the wetlands. \nAt 1:00 pm\, take part in the “I’m Lichen It” program to investigate the colorful growth partners of algae and fungus found on rocks\, trees\, fence posts\, buildings and more. \nFinally at 4:30 pm\, meet at the beach parking lot at Dog Creek Park for a “Cloud Picnic.”  Visit Iowa Tourism’s chosen location for the “99 Parks in 99 Counties Promotion.”  Bring a light snack or an early evening meal to enjoy as you kick back to survey cloud formations in the sky. \nJoin in one or all of these events in O’Brien County.  Need to know more?  Contact the O’Brien County Conservation Board at 712-295-7200.  For more information about activities in other counties contact the Conservation Boards in Clay and Palo Alto counties!

SUMMARY:Community Blood Bank Blood Drive in Sheldon
DESCRIPTION:The Community Blood Bank will be at Village Northwest Unlimited on Tuesday\, May 14th from 7:30 am to 10:20 am and at Sanford Sheldon from 2:30 pm to 3:00 pm for blood drives. All blood donations will stay local to save the lives of Sheldon patients.           \nCommunity Blood Bank supplies over 550 units of blood each week to people in the region.  Among those who benefit from donated blood are trauma and burn victims\, cancer patients and persons undergoing surgery.  Donating blood is a simple way to save patients’ lives in the community.  Without volunteer blood donors donating blood throughout the summer\, it becomes increasingly difficult to maintain an adequate supply of blood for community hospitals. \n“Blood usage has been outpacing collection for the last few weeks\, which has placed supplies at critical levels many times\,” states Ken Versteeg\, Executive Director\, Community Blood Bank.  “Looking forward\, we are facing one of the most challenging seasons to maintain an adequate blood supply for the community.  This is the opportunity to save the lives of local patients throughout the summer months.  Please consider giving blood to support the only blood supplier for Sanford Sheldon.” \nDonors must be at least 17 years old (16 years old with a signed parent consent form)\, weigh 110 lbs or more and be in good general health.  It is recommended that a person eat and drink plenty of fluids prior to donating blood.  Please bring an ID with you at the time of donation.  For more information log onto www.cbblifeblood.org\, call Community Blood Bank at 1-877-877-3070 with walk-ins welcome. \nCommunity Blood Bank is not affiliated with other blood bank organizations and takes pride in being a self-sufficient organization\, thanks to the generosity of our local blood donors.

SUMMARY:Community Blood Bank Blood Drive at Hegg Memorial
DESCRIPTION:Hegg Memorial Health Center Avera Health will host a community blood drive on Tuesday\, May 28th from 1:00 pm to 3:30 pm. All blood donations will stay local to help save the lives of area patients in need.           \nCommunity Blood Bank supplies over 550 units of blood each week to people in the region.  Among those who benefit from donated blood are trauma and burn victims\, cancer patients and persons undergoing surgery.  Donating blood is a simple way to save patients’ lives in the community.  Without volunteer blood donors donating blood throughout the summer\, it becomes increasingly difficult to maintain an adequate supply of blood for our community hospitals. Please consider giving blood to support the only blood supplier for the Rock Valley area.” \nDonors must be at least 17 years old (16 years old with a signed parent consent form)\, weigh 110 lbs or more and be in good general health.  It is recommended that a person eat and drink plenty of fluids prior to donating blood.  Please bring an ID with you at the time of donation.  For more information log onto www.cbblifeblood.org\, call Hegg Memorial Health Center Avera Health at 712-476-8020. All walk-ins area welcome. \nCommunity Blood Bank is not affiliated with other blood bank organizations and takes pride in being a self-sufficient organization\, thanks to the generosity of our local blood donors.
