SUMMARY:All Blood Types Requested at the Sibley All American Blood Drive
DESCRIPTION:Osceola Community Hospital and Community Blood Bank will partner up to save lives at an All American community blood drive event held on Wednesday\, September 18 from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm and 2:30 pm to 5:00 pm at Osceola Community Hospital.  The public will have an opportunity to donate blood to help local patients in the hospital during the month of September.  All blood donations will go directly to saving patients’ lives in the Sibley area. \n“The need for blood throughout the area is very consistent\, with 540 units of blood being used in the area last week\,” states Ken Versteeg\, Executive Director\, Community Blood Bank.  “This blood drive event helps bring awareness to the community about the need for blood as we approach the change in seasons.  The hope is to bring about an increase in local blood supplies in order for us to be able to treat trauma\, surgery and cancer patients throughout the fall and avoid a shortage in our community.  We encourage residents to please consider donating blood when we are at Osceola Community Hospital on September 18.  All those donating will receive an event t-shirt and a free meal.” \n Community Blood Bank supplies over 550 units of blood each week to people in the region.  Among those who benefit from donated blood are trauma and burn victims\, cancer patients and persons undergoing surgery.  Donating blood is a simple way to save patients’ lives in the community.  Without volunteer blood donors donating blood throughout the summer\, it becomes increasingly difficult to maintain an adequate supply of blood for our community hospitals. \nDonors must be at least 17 years old (16 years old with a signed parent consent form found at www.cbblifeblood.org)\, weigh 110 lbs. or more and be in good general health the day of the donation.  Please bring an I.D.  It is recommended that a person eat and drink plenty of fluid prior to donating.  You can safely donate blood every 56 days. \nFor more information log onto www.cbblifeblood.org. DESCRIPTION:The natural world is filled with color\, shape\, and design.  In 2019\, the O’Brien County Conservation Board will be hosting a monthly Nature’s Art series to engage people of all ages in looking at nature through an artistic lens. \nThe next program in the series is “Butterfly Wings” which will be held at the Prairie Heritage Center on Thursday\, September 19.  The event begins at 6:00 p.m.  Participants will learn about butterflies as pollinators and will take home a craft as delicate as the wings of these fleeting creatures. \nThere is no reservation required.  This program is suitable for all ages.  Call the Prairie Heritage Center – 712-295-7200 for more information.

CPR can be a daunting task\, but when the time comes for you to perform\, will you be ready? \nThis certification level was formerly known as Healthcare Provider by the American Heart Association. The AHA no longer offers a renewal course for the BLS or Healthcare Provider level. This level of training is required for all EMS providers and many nurses\, firefighters\, law enforcement\, and other healthcare professionals. Topics include: adult\, child\, and infant CPR according to the revised 2015 American Heart Association standards. DESCRIPTION:Seasons Center for Behavioral Health is hosting a free kids’ carnival on Thursday\, September 26\, 2019 from 4:00 -7:00 PM in Spencer. This free\, family-friendly event is open to the entire community and families of all ages are welcome. \n“The purpose of this carnival is to provide a fun-filled event for the whole community\, while sharing resources that are available to those in need\,” said Katie Ping\, Marketing and Events Coordinator at Seasons Center. “We’ll have all of your carnival favorites like face painting\, inflatables\, some amazing prizes\, concessions\, and games!” \nThe kids’ carnival will celebrate the three-year anniversary of the opening of Autumn’s Center and promote positive mental health through a family-friendly event. \nSeasons Center for Behavioral Health has received funding from the Clay County Convention & Visitors Bureau and the Iowa Department of Public Health to host this kids’ carnival at Autumn’s Center. Autumn’s Center has served 2\,368 children since it opened in October of 2016. \nThe free kids’ carnival will take place at Autumn’s Center at 120 E. 5th Street in Spencer. If necessary\, updates regarding weather will be posted to Seasons Center’s Facebook page.
