DESCRIPTION:Are you looking for the first robin or bluebird of the year?  The Waterman Creek and Little Sioux River valleys are the perfect place to spot these typical summer visitors along with a variety of winter guests.  Join bird experts\, Lee Schoenewe\, Joe Jungers and others in a birding event hosted by the O’Brien County Conservation Board. \nMeet at the Prairie Heritage Center at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday\, January 4 for a day of winter birding.  Participants will carpool to some excellent habitat areas in the valley looking for winter species.  After a short lunch break around noon\, another carpooling adventure will occur as participants drive a river route for the annual Bald Eagle Survey. \nCome for the morning\, the afternoon\, or for the whole day.  Bring a sack lunch to enjoy during a break in the action around noon.  People who are interested in participating only in the survey route can join up with others around noon at the Prairie Heritage Center. \nEnjoy a winter outing!  For more information about the event\, contact the O’Brien County Conservation Board at 712-295-7200.

Mr. Chambers served active duty in the Air Force and in the Iowa Air National Guard for a total of 26 years\, and also served in the Iowa House of Representatives from 2003-2013.   \nIn addition\, Mr. Chambers has been a Social Studies teacher at the Sheldon Community High School since 1994. SUMMARY:Community Blood Bank Blood Drive in Rock Rapids
DESCRIPTION:A community blood drive will be held on Wednesday\, January 15 from 7:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Central Lyon High School in Rock Rapids.  The public is encouraged to donate blood to help with winter blood shortages. \nEvery three seconds someone needs blood\, and the only way to ensure that those needs are met is to rely on volunteer donors to donate blood. The need for local blood donors is immense.  The Community Blood Bank supplies over 550 units of blood each week to people in the region.  Among those who benefit from donated blood are trauma and burn victims\, cancer patients and persons undergoing surgery. \nDonors must be at least 17 years old (16 years old with a signed parent consent form)\, weigh 110 lbs or more and be in good general health.  It is recommended that a person eat and drink plenty of fluids prior to donating blood.  Please bring an ID with you at the time of donation.  For more information log onto www.cbblifeblood.org\, call Community Blood Bank at 1-877-877-3070 or call Central Lyon High School at 712-472-2664. \nCommunity Blood Bank is not affiliated with other blood bank organizations and takes pride in being a self-sufficient organization\, thanks to the generosity of our local blood donors.

DESCRIPTION:Northwestern College will display watercolor paintings by Orange City artist Judy Thompson in an exhibit scheduled for January 7th through February 29th.  “Boundless” will consist of a collection of watercolors created during time spent on the Great Plains of Iowa\, Nebraska and South Dakota.  A public reception with Thompson will begin at 7 pm on Wednesday\, January 15th. \nThompson uses vivid colors and expressive line work in her paintings\, sometimes beginning with a drawing made with paraffin wax.  The was resists the paint applied over it\, creating textured lines that characterize the earthiness of the land. \nThe Te Paske Gallery is located in Northwestern’s Korver Visual Arts Center along Highway 10 in Orange City.  Gallery hours are 7:00 am to 7:00 pm Monday through Sunday.

Social will be from 5 p.m. – 6 p.m. A meal will be served at 6 p.m. with a short presentation to follow the meal along with tours of the brewery\, given by John Berry! Cost for the evening will be $20. This event is open to all Chamber Members\, Employees and their Spouses! Contact Ashley at the Chamber if you or any employees are interested in attending. \nIn the past the Chamber Annual Meeting has been held in August. After much discussion the Board of Directors felt that August is such a busy time of year for everyone and decided to move the annual event to January. They are excited to have this event in January to recognize outgoing Board Members and to introduce new Board Members to begin their term\, July 1\, 2020.
