DESCRIPTION:The O’Brien County Conservation Board is looking forward to hosting guided/self-guided experiences at our parks this summer.  Public programming will be taking on a new look this summer.  Join the naturalist for a different kind of outdoor fun. \nThe first event will be “Basic Birds.”  It will be held at Mill Creek Park on Tuesday\, June 2 from 8:00 until 10:30 a.m.  Participants are encouraged to bring binoculars\, if they have them.  This program will help participants learn about bird identification by sight and sound. \nMeet that naturalist by the dam at any point between these hours.  The naturalist will welcome you and your group to give you an introduction and instructions.  Your group must not include more than ten participants.  Take-home materials will be provided\, and stations will be marked along the trail for your enjoyment.  If at any point\, your group encounters another along the trail\, please announce your presence and allow a safe passing distance. \nThe naturalist looks forward to helping you enjoy and explore the outdoors.  Families are encouraged to attend together.  Look forward to more of these types of programs during Summer 2020. \nCall the Prairie Heritage Center – 712-295-7200 for more information.

DESCRIPTION:The Sheldon Prairie Queen Kiwanis Club will be holding their Annual Peanut Butter and Jelly Drive this Friday and Saturday\, June 5th and 6th\, Kiwanis members will be at Hy-Vee in Sheldon from 7:00 am until 6:00 pm and at Dollar General and Fareway in Sheldon from 8:00 am until 6:00 pm. \nCommunity members are encouraged to consider purchasing peanut butter\, jelly\, or both\, when they come into the stores and drop off their donations at the table that will be set up at the entrance. Monetary donations will also be accepted. \nDonations will be distributed to Children’s World and the St. Patrick’s Food Bank\, as well as the summer lunch programs hosted by the Sheldon Community School District and Sheldon United Methodist Church. Any excess donations will go to the Upper Des Moines Food Bank in Primghar.

Participants will start in George and head to ReBar in Sibley\, Rails in Sanborn\, Brady’s Pub in Sheldon\, and Koldy’s in Rock Valley\, and finish up back in George. ALL FORMS OF VEHICLES ARE WELCOME! \nCost is $10 per driver and $5 per passenger. DESCRIPTION:KIWA Radio and the Community Blood Bank\, along with the SCDC\, are teaming up to host the Annual All American Blood Drive on Monday\, June 22nd from 10:00 am to 1:30 pm and 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm at KIWA Radio\, located at 411 9th Street in Sheldon. \nAll blood types are in immediate need.  All who donate will receive a meal certificate from Taco John’s in Sheldon\, and an ALL AMERICAN BLOOD DONOR t-shirt. \nAll blood donors must have an appointment to donate\, due to policies associated with COVID-19.  \nDonors schedule an appointment by logging onto cbblifeblood.org and click on “events” then click on June 22. \n“Community support is vital to the local blood supply. It is important to know that the blood that is donated with Community Blood Bank is from your friends and neighbors in this region\,” states Ken Versteeg\, Executive Director\, Community Blood Bank.  “We are grateful for the opportunity to serve Sheldon area patients and encourage the community to help us by donating on the bloodmobile when it visits Sheldon.” \nSanford Sheldon Medical Center blood needs are supplied by Community Blood Bank. Community Blood Bank has been the sole provider of blood and blood product for Sanford Sheldon Medical Center for over 17 years. \nDonors must be at least 17 years of age (16 years old with signed parent consent form)\, weigh 110 lbs or Blood donors must be at least 17 years old (16 years old with a signed parent consent form found at www.cbblifeblood.org) weigh 110 pounds or more and be in good general health.  Donors exhibiting cold or flu symptoms are unable to donate.  A valid identification is required at the time of registration.  It is recommended that a person eat and drink plenty of fluid prior to donating blood.  With policies associated with addressing COVID-19\, donors with appointments will only be accepted at these blood drive events. DESCRIPTION:The Sheldon Chamber of Development Corporation\, the City of Sheldon\, and participating local businesses would like to help you save money! \n“Comeback Cash\,” similar to Merry Money that is sold each November in Sheldon\, will be available for purchase\, ONE DAY ONLY\, Tuesday June 30th at the Crossroads Pavilion. \nThere will be a total of $250\,000 sold\, with a limit of $500 per family at a 30% discount\, so $100 would only cost $70\, and the $500 maximum would only be $350. Comeback Cash will be sold in $10 increments. \nComeback Cash will go on sale starting at 7:00 am until 7:00 pm\, or until it’s gone\, and must be used at one of the participating businesses (listed above) in the month of July. \nFor more information\, please call the SCDC at 712-324-2813.
