SUMMARY:Beginning Beekeeping Informational Class
DESCRIPTION:A Beginning Beekeeper set of four classes will be offered at the Dordt University Agriculture Stewardship Center in classroom ASC 103 on Tuesday evenings starting on January 4\, 2022 at 6:30 PM. The class will conclude between 8:30 – 9:00 PM depending on questions and progress in the class. \nThe first class is informational and is FREE of charge. The title of the first class is “The Good\, the Bad\, and the Ugly of Beekeeping” and will provide an overview of what needs to be considered if one wants to begin beekeeping. Costs of beekeeping\, hive locations\, bee acquisition\, and much more will be presented at the first class. There will be sufficient time allocated for answering participant questions. The decision to keep bees requires serious thought and long-term thinking and planning. \nThere will be a fee for the additional classes on January 11\, 18\, and either February 8 or 15 for the participants who\, after learning about what beekeeping entails\, want to stay in the course and continue with their desire to begin keeping bees. \nIf interested in coming to the first informational class\, please pre-register by emailing Dr. Duane Bajema at duane.bajema@dordt.edu or helen.zeutenhorst@dordt.edu.

DESCRIPTION:Western and Unity are joining together to raise money to help Vine School System of Christ (VSSC) build a basketball court and buy basketball equipment.  \nVSSC is a school in Monrovia\, Liberia that partners with One Body One Hope to provide education for 265 students from nursery school through 12th grade. 43 of the students are orphans\, and another 70 students are from low or no income families in need of education. Please join us for the basketball games at Western on January 13. \nWe will pass a freewill donation bucket and have a moment of prayer for VSSC. We hope to see you there!

SUMMARY:Annual Kid's Ice Fishing Clinic
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, January 22\n3-5pm\nLake Pahoja (East Shelter) \nCome out to Lake Pahoja and have a great time ice fishing for prizes. Registrations start at the East Shelter at 2:30 pm (free\, but must register to win prizes and preregistration is not needed). Special prizes for youth-largest and most fish caught and a door prize for all youth participants. Bluegill must be 5” or bigger and walleye and bass must be 15” or bigger to qualify. Bait will be provided for youth participants at the shelter. \nParticipants 16 and older license required. \nDon’t have equipment or have never ice fished? No worries! Come to the East Shelter after 3pm and get the basics in ice fishing and try your luck with some local experts:) Tackle will be provided. Just take a bucket or chair to sit on. Adults taking youth will be registered to win a Scheel’s gift card for $25.

Iowa native Aldo Leopold created the discipline of wildlife management and was a pioneering conservationist.   His ground-breaking “land ethic” suggests that “We abuse land because we regard it as a commodity belonging to us. When we see land as a community to which we belong\, we may begin to use it with love and respect.”  Ann Lundberg will lead this program\, and invite you to continue in celebrating Aldo Leopold with a discussion of his book A Sand County Almanac on Feb 12th. \nInstructor Ann Lundberg teaches at Dordt University and with the Creation Care Studies Program in Kaikoura\, New Zealand; she specializes in environmental literature and nature writing. A native of Colorado\, she has a Bachelor’s degree in geology from the University of Wyoming and has spent several summers working as a Ranger with the National Park Service. \nPre-registration appreciated.
