Doors will open at 6:15 p.m.\, and people must be in line or signed in by 7 p.m. to participate. \nThis year’s caucuses will kick off organizing for the 2026 midterm elections and focus on building the Sioux County Democratic Party. Attendees will elect delegates to the county convention\, choose new members for the county party’s Central Committee\, and discuss and adopt proposed resolutions to be added to the county platform. \nAny resident of Sioux County who is eligible to vote in the November 2026 general election and who is a registered Democrat may participate in the Sioux County Democratic Caucuses. This includes those who will be 18 on or by Nov. 3\, 2026. At the caucus\, attendees can update their current registration\, change their party affiliation\, and register to vote for the first time. The story unfolds through multiple perspectives\, including the teacher chosen to travel aboard the shuttle\, her daughter left behind\, bystanders processing shock\, and artist Claude Monet\, whose impressionistic worldview influences how audiences experience the narrative. Together\, these characters navigate the joys and pains of human connection and disconnection. \nDirector Drew Schmidt\, associate professor of theatre at Northwestern\, describes the production as “heart‑wrenchingly hopeful\,” emphasizing theatre’s role in helping audiences examine themselves and emerge more whole. \nThe cast features Northwestern acting faculty member Molly Wiebe Faber as Elizabeth\, with Rebecca De Haan as understudy. Additional cast members include Charlee Olson\, Mackenna Thurman\, Dana Sorenson\, Simon Maggert\, Mackenzie Russell\, and Micah De Young. \nThe production incorporates impressionistic projections inspired by Monet\, along with nostalgic mid‑1980s costumes and props. DESCRIPTION:Northwestern College’s theatre department will present “Defying Gravity” on February 13\, 14\, 19\, 20 and 21 at 7:30 p.m.\, with a 2 p.m. matinee on February 14\, in the Allen Black Box Theatre in Orange City. \nWritten by Jane Anderson\, the play is set against the backdrop of the 1986 Challenger space shuttle disaster and blends fact and fiction to explore how personal and collective experiences of loss shape resilience\, memory\, and hope. The story unfolds through multiple perspectives\, including the teacher chosen to travel aboard the shuttle\, her daughter left behind\, bystanders processing shock\, and artist Claude Monet\, whose impressionistic worldview influences how audiences experience the narrative. Together\, these characters navigate the joys and pains of human connection and disconnection. \nDirector Drew Schmidt\, associate professor of theatre at Northwestern\, describes the production as “heart‑wrenchingly hopeful\,” emphasizing theatre’s role in helping audiences examine themselves and emerge more whole. \nThe cast features Northwestern acting faculty member Molly Wiebe Faber as Elizabeth\, with Rebecca De Haan as understudy. Additional cast members include Charlee Olson\, Mackenna Thurman\, Dana Sorenson\, Simon Maggert\, Mackenzie Russell\, and Micah De Young. \nThe production incorporates impressionistic projections inspired by Monet\, along with nostalgic mid‑1980s costumes and props. The band will also present the Iowa premiere of Brooke Pierson’s Concertino for Clarinet and Wind Ensemble\, featuring Meredith Sundberg\, recipient of Northwestern’s Ritsema Music Scholarship. \nThe evening concludes with Eric Whitacre’s Godzilla Eats Las Vegas!\, a dramatic and cinematic piece that blends humor with deeper themes of resilience and hope in Christ. \nThe concert is free and open to the public.
