Car Destroyed In Sutherland Car Fire

Sutherland, Iowa — A passenger car was destroyed in a fire on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, in Sutherland.

According to Sutherland Fire Chief Rich Van Beek, at a few minutes before 3:10 p.m., the Sutherland Fire Department was called to the report of a car on fire at 312 Pine Street, in Sutherland.

The chief says the fire department saw flames coming from under the hood when they got there. He says the owner had started the car in the garage, and it made a bang as it was started, so they pushed the vehicle out of the garage.

Van Beek says no injuries were reported.

He says the cause of the fire appeared to be electrical in nature.

Chief Van Beek reports that the 2001 Pontiac GT was likely totaled in the blaze.

He says the firefighters who responded were on the scene for about a half an hour.
