Sheldon, Iowa — Sheldon Police have been kept busy the past couple of days with a series of minor traffic accidents.
The first was reported shortly after 2:30 Wednesday afternoon in the parking lot at Sheldon Community High School. According to the report, the accident happened when a 2002 Dodge Intrepid, driven by 17-year old Ashlynn Cavin of Sibley backed from a parking space into the front of a 1995 Mercury Sable driven by Nicholas Bomgaars of Sheldon. Cavin told officers she hadn’t seen the Bomgaars car before backing from the space. Damage to each vehicle was estimated at $1,000, and there were no injuries.
Shortly before 4 o’clock Thursday afternoon police were called to the report of a collision on Highway 18 near the railroad tracks in Sheldon. Police say the accident happened when a westbound 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe, driven by 25-year old Margaret Dagel of Sibley struck the rear of a westbound 2009 Chevrolet Suburban, driven by 50-year old Brad Smith of Primghar. Dagel was reportedly cited for Failure to Maintain Control. Damage to Smith’s Suburban were estimated at $750, with $1000 damage estimate assessed to Dagel’s Tahoe. No injuries were reported.
Then, just after 6 pm Thursday, an accident happened at the corner of 7th Avenue and 5th Street in Sheldon. According to the report, 17-year old Haley Jungers of Sheldon was southbound on 7th Avenue in a 2003 Chevrolet Impala. Jungers’ car entered the intersection where it was struck by a westbound 1998 Chevrolet Cavalier driven by 23-year old Bryce Nelson of Boyden. There were no injuries reported, but Nelson’s Cavalier sustained approximately $1500 in damage, with $2500 damage reported to Jungers’ Impala. Police say they ticketed Nelson for Failure To Yield To Vehicle On The Right.
