Ocheyedan Man Injured In Two-Truck-Crash Near Sanborn

Sanborn, Iowa – A reported mechanical failure is said to have caused a collision between two large trucks very early Friday morning, sending one driver to the hospital and causing an estimated $180-thousand in damage.

According to the O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred shortly after 1:15 Friday (12/27/24) morning, in the 2800 mile of Roosevelt Avenue (Highway 59), north of Sanborn. Deputies say the crash happened when a southbound 2020 Freightliner box truck, driven by 34-year-old Marcus Jones of Bellevue, Nebraska, crossed the center line and collided with a northbound 2022 Peterbilt semi, driven by 31-year-old Lee Brownmiller of Ocheyedan.

According to the report, Jones told deputies that his steering wheel locked up, causing him to cross the center line of the roadway.

Brownmiller was transported to the Sanford Sheldon Medical Center by the Sheldon Community Ambulance team with what the report describes as “minor” injuries. Jones escaped injury.

Damage to the Brownmiller semi was estimated at $120-thousand, with damage to the Jones Freightliner estimated at $60-thousand.
