Rock Rapids, Iowa — A Rock Rapids man has been arrested on felony assault charges.
According to a statement from the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, 40-year-old William Stewart Johnson Jr. of Rock Rapids is accused of assaulting someone at Rosewood Heights apartments in Rock Rapids. He was arrested on Thursday evening.
The statement says that the sheriff’s office was asked to assist the Lyon County Ambulance for a call at 1202 South 3rd Avenue (Rosewood Heights) Apt 212 in Rock Rapids. During the course of assistance, deputies came to believe that an assault had taken place. An investigation then followed.
Johnson Jr was charged with assault causing serious bodily injuries, a class D felony. If convicted, Johnson Jr could face up to five years in prison.
He faces a preliminary hearing on October 7.
Johnson was booked into the Lyon County Jail in Rock Rapids, and was released the same day after posting a $5000 cash or surety bond.
The sheriff’s office says the Iowa State Patrol also assisted in this matter.
