Granville, Iowa– A Chicago man and six passengers were taken to hospitals after an accident near Granville on Sunday, December 8, 2024.
The O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office reports that at about 11:10 p.m., 30-year-old Wuilder Montoya of Chicago was driving a 2001 Ford northbound on Highway 143 (Nettle Avenue), four miles east of Granville.
According to the report, a witness said that they observed Montoya fail to stop at the stop sign for Highway 10 (460th Street). Montoya crossed over the intersection and lost control of the vehicle, which ran off the roadway to the right and entered the ditch, then rolling into a farm field. The Ford Escape contained seven occupants, three of whom were ejected from the vehicle. Four individuals sustained serious/ life threatening injuries. Three individuals sustained minor injuries. All are from Chicago.
The Primghar Ambulance took Montoya to Sanford Sheldon Hospital. Some of the other victims were also taken to Sanford Sheldon, and some were taken to Orange City Area Health System.
Ambualnces providing transport included those from Primghar, Granville, Paullina, and Orange City.
Montoya’s Ford sustained $10,000 in damages, which totaled the vehicle.
He was charged with failure to obey traffic control device, failure to maintain control, no valid driver’s license, and no insurance.
