Ocheyedan, Iowa– A Sibley man was taken to the hospital after an accident near Ocheyedan on Monday, September 23, 2024.
The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office reports that at about 4:30 p.m., 74-year-old Melvin Johnson of Melvin was driving a 2006 Freightliner semi northbound on Tyler Avenue (AKA L62), a mile north of the east side of Ocheyedan. They tell us that 35-year-old Levi Christensen of Sibley was westbound on Highway 9 in a 1996 Chevy pickup.
The report says that after stopping at the stop sign, Johnson proceeded north on Tyler Ave and did not see Christensen approaching the intersection. Christensen was unable to avoid the accident, and the vehicles collided.
An ambulance took Christensen to Avera Hospital.
Johnson’s Freightliner semi sustained $7000 in damages, and Christensen’s Chevy pickup sustained $10,000 in damages, and was considered totaled.
Johnson was charged with entering a through highway.
