Spirit Lake Restaurant Owner Indicted On Charges Out Of Louisiana

Spirit Lake, Iowa — The owner of a Spirit Lake restaurant has been indicted on charges out of Louisiana.

A press release from the Spirit Lake Police Department says they were made aware on May 24th of this year that Choi Van Leo, owner of the Asian Palace Restaurant, was wanted by authorities in Calcasieu Parish, Louisiana. Leo was arrested and held in the Dickinson County Jail before being transported to Louisiana.

On September 27th of this year, Spirit Lake police were again contacted by Louisiana authorities who informed them Leo was formally indicted on two counts of aggravated rape and four counts of molestation of a juvenile. The charges stem from cases dating back to 1995.

Spirit Lake police say that because of the amount of time that had passed prior to Leo’s arrest and the nature of the offenses alleged, the prosecutor’s office from Louisiana requested Spirit Lake police make the local community aware of the case. Anyone who may have additional information should contact Spirit Lake police at 336-5776.
