Three Taken To Hospital After Thursday Accident In Sheldon

Sheldon, Iowa– A Terril woman, a Sioux Rapids woman, and a Sheldon woman were taken to the hospital after an accident in Sheldon on Thursday, September 26, 2024.

The Sheldon Police Department reports that at about 2:00 p.m., 70-year-old Sarah Schnell of Terril was driving a 2014 Dodge minivan westbound on Highway 18, at the vet clinic and high school corner in Sheldon. They tell us that 70-year-old Mary Ruyter of Sheldon was also westbound on 18 in a 2015 Nissan SUV.

The report says that Ruyter was driving behind the Schnell vehicle and apparently Ruyter rear-ended Schnell.

SCAT took Schnell, Ruyter, and another person, 68-year-old Joyce Johnson of Sioux Rapids, to Sanford Sheldon Hospital.

Schnell’s Dodge minivan sustained $7500 in damages, and Ruyter’s Nissan SUV sustained $7500 in damages.

Ruyter was charged with failure to stop in assured clear distance.
