Sanborn, Iowa– A Sanborn man and his passenger were taken to the hospital after a pickup versus pickup accident near Sanborn on Tuesday, November 5, 2024.
The O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office reports that at about 6:30 p.m., 20-year-old Riely Andringa of Sheldon was driving a 2011 Chevy pickup westbound on Highway 18, near Oriole Avenue, about halfway between Sheldon and Sanborn. They tell us that 35-year-old Christopher Cammann of Sanborn was also westbound on 18 in a 2023 Ram pickup.
The report says that a semi-tractor-trailer was in front of Cammann and it was turning southbound onto Oriole Avenue. Cammann stopped behind the semi as it was turning. After cresting a hill, Andringa observed the vehicle stopped ahead of him. Andringa stated that his brakes did not appear to be functioning properly and he was unable to stop before colliding with Cammann. The semi was not struck. Andringa’s vehicle then went off the roadway to the right and came to rest.
The Sanborn Ambulance took Cammann and a juvenile passenger in his vehicle to Sanford Sheldon Hospital. Andringa complained of neck pain and he was transported to the Sanford Sheldon Hospital via personal vehicle.
Both pickups were totaled in the accident.
