Alleged Illegal Alien Sentenced On Drug Charges

Alvarez-CarrisalesGranville, Iowa — A man who is alleged to have entered the country illegally has been released to US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) following his sentencing on drug charges in Sioux County District Court Monday.

Sioux County Attorney Thomas Kunstle announced that 33-year old Xavier Alvarez-Carrisales, who has been living in Granville, was sentenced for two counts of Failing to Affix Drug Tax Stamps on Methamphetamine, two Class D Felonies.

This case arose on February 24 and 26, 2016, when Alvarez-Carrisales reportedly assisted in the distribution of approximately 4 and 8 ounces, respectively, of methamphetamine. Both deliveries occurred at a home near rural Granville, where Alvarez-Carrisales was staying.

Alvarez-Carrisales was sentenced to suspended five year prison sentences on each felony Tax Stamp convictions, with the sentences to run concurrently. He served 52 days in jail awaiting charges and sentencing, after which he was released. The US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) filed a federal warrant alleging an aggravated re-entry, and upon being released from the Sioux County Jail, ICE took custody of Alvarez-Carrisales, and is expected to begin deportation proceedings.
