August Traffic Crash Results In Multiple Felony Charges For Hartley Woman

Rock Valley, Iowa — A Hartley woman has been charged with a trio of felony charges and one misdemeanor in connection with a Rock Valley traffic crash that happened this past August.

According to court records obtained by KIWA, on August 12th Rock Valley Police were dispatched to a rear-end collision at the intersection of Highway 18 and 21st Avenue in Rock Valley. Upon arrival, officers discovered that an SUV driven by 36-year-old Brea Tschopp, of Hartley, had rear-ended another vehicle. The Rock Valley Ambulance was reportedly paged for three minor, dependent children, ages 5, 4, and 1-1/2, who were passengers in Tschopp’s vehicle.

Court records indicate that while Tschopp’s portable breathalyzer test showed no alcohol in her system, officers suspected she was under the influence of a narcotic substance, and they say she failed tests administered by a drug recognition expert. Records indicate that she agreed to the withdrawal of a sample of bodily fluid, which reportedly tested positive for multiple prescription medications.

On Friday (October 16th) Tschopp was arrested on three counts of Neglect or Abandonment of a Dependent Person, which are Class C Felonies, as well as one count of OWI – 2nd Offense, which is an Aggravated Misdemeanor.
