Both Drivers Injured, Ticketed After Crash Near Paullina

Paullina, Iowa — Both drivers were injured, and issued citations, following a crash west of Paullina early Tuesday morning.

O’Brien County deputies say the crash happened at the intersection of Highway 10 and Nettle Avenue. According to authorities, a 2013 Ford F-150 pickup, driven by 63-year old Carl Vande Weerd of Rock Valley was southbound on Nettle Avenue at 4:45 Tuesday morning, and failed to stop for the stop sign at the Highway 10 intersection, and was struck by a westbound 2004 Chevy pickup, driven by 22-year old Ethan Faust of Paullina.

After the collision, Vande Weerd’s Ford entered the southwest ditch, rolling once before coming to rest on its wheels. Faust’s Chevy pickup also came to rest in the southwest ditch, according to authorities.

Vande Weerd was reportedly transported to the Orange City Hospital by Paullina Ambulance, while Faust was transported to the Orange City Hospital by private vehicle.

Deputies say both drivers were ticketed, Vande Weerd for Failure to Stop at a Stop Sign, and Faust for Operating a Non-Registered Vehicle.

Both pickups were termed a total loss.
