Caller Arrested After Falsely Claiming Shots Fired

Inwood, Iowa — A report of gun shots fired in Inwood on Saturday night, August 29, 2015 turned into an arrest of the caller on several charges.

Lyon County Deputies report that about 9:40 PM, their dispatch received a 911 call of gun shots being fired on South Main Street in Inwood.

While the deputies were en route to the call, they also received reports from people inside their homes of a person yelling and cursing outside. Upon arrival at the scene the deputies located 27-year-old Adam Murphy of George. It was determined that Murphy’s report of gun shots was false.

Murphy was subsequently arrested and was charged with false reporting, a serious misdemeanor; and falsely claiming an emergency, possession of drug paraphernalia, public intoxication, and disorderly conduct, which are all simple misdemeanors.

Murphy was transported to the Lyon County Jail in Rock Rapids, where at last report he remained in custody.
