The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office reports that about 8:30 Sunday morning, June 14th, 2015, their dispatcher received a phone call in regards to a vehicle in the ditch. The vehicle had gone through a couple of fences and was stuck in the 2100 block of Grant Avenue. That’s about two and three-quarter miles northeast of Doon.

The alleged driver of the vehicle, 31-year-old James Bruns of Doon, told authorities he had been driving on Grant Avenue around 2:00 AM. He said he didn’t realize that it was a dead end road until he saw the sign. Bruns says he tried to stop but was unable to and his car entered the west ditch. He attempted to drive out of the ditch, he says and went through a second fence, across a field drive, into that field, and then back over the field drive where he got stuck.

Bruns was cited for Failure to Maintain Control. His 2001 Chevy Cavalier sustained about $3,000 in damages.

Officers at the scene say they located a small amount of marijuana in the Bruns vehicle. Bruns was arrested and charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance-Marijuana 2nd offense.

The Sheriff’s Office says he was transported to the Lyon County Jail where he was held on the Aggravated Misdemeanor charge.
