Drowsey Driving Leads To Injury Accident

Hartley, Iowa — Falling asleep at the wheel caused a trip to the hospital for a Cherokee teen, according to authorities.

The O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office reports that about 7:10 AM on Thursday, June 25, 2015, 18-year-old Brianna Nixon of Cherokee was driving a 2010 Nissan northbound on M12.

The report says that Nixon advised that she fell asleep and then lost control. The car hit the right shoulder. Nixon swerved back onto the roadway, and then swerved back into the east ditch, where the car rolled a time and a half landing on its roof in a soybean field.

The Hartley Ambulance Crew took Nixon to Cherokee hospital.

Nixon’s Nissan sustained $10,000 total in damages. Damages to the bean field were estimated at $50.
