Explosion & Fire DRILL In Sheldon Thursday Evening

Sheldon, Iowa — The Sheldon Fire Company was dispatched for an explosion and fire at a Sheldon manufacturer Thursday night, but it was just a drill.

Sheldon Assistant Fire Chief Randy Harms says the department normally does an asnnual walk-through of various Sheldon industries so firefighters can have an idea of what they’d be up against if something bad happened.

Thursday night, instead of doing a walk-through, Harms says they staged a drill simulating an explosion and fire in the paint area at Maintainer in Sheldon. He says that, after the drill, firefighters toured the plant and talked about the things that had gone well in the drill, and other things that can be changed for various types of calls at the Maintainer plant. The drill was designed to help prepare Sheldon Fire Company personnel in handling a situation they pray never comes to pass.
