Fire Damages Machine Shed Between Lester And Larchwood

Lester, Iowa — A machine shed was damaged in a fire on Tuesday, July 16, 2019 near Lester.

According to Lester Assistant Fire Chief Glenn Vande Kamp, about 9:05 p.m., the Lester Fire Department was called to the report of a shed fire at 1344 Coolidge Avenue, three miles west and two and a half north of Lester, or two miles east of Larchwood.

The assistant chief says the fire departments saw heavy smoke as they approached the scene. He says they used water and foam to fight the fire.

Vande Kamp says no injuries were reported.

According to Vande Kamp, the fire was actually in their territory but was located closer to Larchwood. Responding to the fire were the Lester, Larchwood, and Inwood fire departments, and the Lester Rescue Squad.

He says the cause of the fire is undetermined.

Assistant Chief Vande Kamp reports that there was moderate damage to the building and its contents. He says one part of the building was damaged, and two of the implements in the building were destroyed.

He says fire and rescue crews were on scene for about two hours.
