Fire Departments Fight Blaze Near Calumet

Calumet, Iowa — The Calumet and Paullina fire departments were called out on Tuesday, November 24, 2020, to a location between the towns.

According to Calumet Fire Chief Korey Dau, about 5:35 p.m., the Calumet Fire Department was called to the report of a tree fire at 4682 Sorrel Avenue, two miles north and three west of Calumet.

The chief says a burn pile had been on fire earlier. He says it must have smoldered and then started a tree on fire. He says the fire department was called because there were hay bales nearby that were at risk of going up in flame. He tells us they sprayed the tree with water and then cut it down.

Dau says no injuries were reported.

The fire department was assisted by firefighters from the Paullina fire department.

Chief Dau reports that the damage was limited to the tree.

He says the firefighters who responded were on the scene for about half an hour.
