Fire Destroys House Near Paullina; Six Departments Respond

Paullina, Iowa — A house was destroyed in a fire on Monday, September 16, 2019, near Paullina, and six northwest Iowa fire departments helped to extinguish the blaze.

According to Paullina Fire Chief Brent Noteboom, about 11:30 p.m., the Paullina Fire Department was called to the report of a garage fire at 4775 Redwing Avenue, a mile and a half south of Paullina on L48.

The chief says the fire department saw the 3-stall attached garage on fire as they approached the scene.

Noteboom says no injuries were reported, due to working smoke alarms in the home.

The fire department was assisted by firefighters and equipment from the Meriden, Cleghorn, Granville, Sutherland, and Primghar fire departments.

He says the cause of the fire appeared to be electrical in nature.

Chief Noteboom reports that the house and garage were totaled in the blaze.

He says the 30 to 35 firefighters who responded were on the scene until about 5:30 a.m., but firefighters were called again on Tuesday morning to extinguish hot spots that had flared up.
