Fire In Village Of Perkins Destroys One Building, Damages Another

Hull, Iowa — One building and its contents were destroyed and one building was damaged in a fire on Wednesday, June 5, 2019, in the village of Perkins, near Hull.

According to Hull Fire Chief Greg Van Roekel, about 2:00 a.m., the Hull Fire Department was called to the report of a structure fire at 3062 317th Street in the village of Perkins, two miles west of Hull, in the northwest part of Perkins.

The chief says the fire department saw one building had burned down and another was on fire as they approached the scene. He says they extinguished the fire on the second building and were able to save its contents, but the other one was totally destroyed. The building that burned down contained firewood, says the chief.

Van Roekel says no injuries were reported.

The Rock Valley Fire Department always responds to structure fire calls in Hull’s district and vice versa, but by the time Rock Valley arrived, Van Roekel says he was able to tell them they could turn around.

He says the cause of the fire is undetermined.

Chief Van Roekel says about 22 firefighters responded and they were on scene for about an hour.
