Hartley Man Arrested For Felony Child Endangerment

Hartley, Iowa — A Hartley man is charged with Felony Child Endangerment in connection with an incident that allegedly occurred earlier this month at his Hartley residence.

According to court documents, charges were filed Monday (August 23rd) against 32-year-old Jesse Ray Bernier, accusing him of Child Endangerment with Bodily Injury, which is a Class D Felony.

Authorities say Bernier was having discipline problems with his son, when he allegedly picked the boy up by the hood of his sweatshirt, lifting him off the floor by the shirt. Police say the incident caused ligature marks and abrasions on the boy’s neck, which reportedly left red marks from ear-to-ear.

On Monday, Bernier was taken into custody and transported to the O’Brien County Jail in Primghar.

Court documents say the victim was removed from the home.
