Hawarden Man Facing First-Degree Burglary Charges After Alleged Orange City Assault

Orange City, Iowa — A Hawarden teen has been arrested on a warrant for burglary charges after an allged break-in and assault in Orange City.

According to a criminal complaint filed with the Sioux County Clerk of Court’s Office by the Orange City Police Department, 18-year-old Scott Maher of Hawarden is accused of breaking into a home and assaulting a victim on February 9th, 2023. He was arrested on a warrant on Sunday, February 26th, 2023.

The complaint accuses Maher of forcing his way into an apartment in Orange City and assaulting a victim. Maher’s presence was unwanted and unwelcome in the apartment.

Maher was charged with first-degree burglary. If convicted, he could face up to 25 years in prison.

He faces a preliminary hearing on Tuesday, March 7th.

After his arrest and booking into jail, Maher was released the next day after posting a $10,000 bond.
