House Sustains Significant Damage In Hartley Area Fire

Hartley, Iowa — A house was damaged in a fire on Saturday, December 14, 2019, near Hartley.

According to Hartley Fire Chief Brad Meendering, about 3:00 p.m., the Hartley Fire Department was called to the report of a house fire at 7088 330th Street, five miles east and a mile south of Hartley.

The chief says the fire department saw smoke coming from the eaves and windowsills on the second story as they approached the scene. He says they used an interior attack to fight the fire.

Meendering says no injuries were reported. He tells us that the Everly Fire Department was also paged, but they didn’t end up needing their help.

He says the cause of the fire appeared to be a malfunctioning electric blanket.

Chief Meendering reports that there was moderate to extensive damage. He says the whole upstairs was gutted.

He says firefighters were on the scene for about an hour.
