K9 Balin Aids In Drug Trafficking Arrest

Sheldon, Iowa — An O’Brien County Sheriff’s Deputy, assisted by Sheldon Police K-9 Balin and his partner, Officer Eric Meineke, made a felony narcotics arrest following a traffic stop Saturday night in Sheldon.

According to the Sheldon Police Department, the incident began when an O’Brien County Deputy conducted a traffic stop at the intersection of South 3rd Avenue and Wyman Street. According to the report, with the assistance of K9 Balin, a quantity of methamphetamine, along with drug paraphernalia was found in the vehicle. The driver, whom authorities identify as 28-year-old Melea Speelmon of Ruthven, was arrested for Possession of a controlled substance with the intent to deliver (methamphetamine), failure to affix a drug tax stamp, and possession of paraphernalia.

In addition, 23-year-old Brittany Rook of Little Rock was charged with possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine 1st offense) and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Both women were booked into the O’Brien County Jail.
