Kingsley Police Chief Arrested On Felony Charges

Plymouth County, Iowa — A northwest Iowa police chief is, himself, in custody after an investigation.

According to the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI), on Monday, February 13, 2023, the Hinton Police Department requested the DCI to investigate a potential criminal matter that involved Kingsley Police Chief, James Dunn.

The DCI tells us that James Dunn was taken into custody at his residence in Kingsley on Wednesday, February 15, 2023 without incident by Agents of the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation.

They tell us Dunn was transported to the Plymouth County Jail and has been charged with three counts of Falsely Obtaining Criminal Intelligence Data, a class D felony, and misdemeanor counts of Non-felonious misconduct in office and stalking. According to a criminal complaint filed with the Plymouth County Clerk of Court by the DCI, Dunn is accused of using a mobile data terminal belonging to the Kingsley Police Department to search for criminal data for personal reasons unrelated to his duties as a peace officer, and allegedly using the data to harass three victims.

The criminal investigation being conducted by the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation is ongoing and no further details will be released by the DCI at this time.
