Little Rock Man Charged With OWI While Driving A Golf Cart

Little Rock, Iowa — A Little Rock Man was arrested early Saturday morning, charged with OWI, while driving a golf cart.

According to the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, shortly before 1:15 Saturday morning, a Lyon County deputy conducted a traffic stop on a golf cart, which was being driven on Lyon Street in Little Rock. Authorities say an investigation determined that 74-year old Frederick Jurrens of Little Rock was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the traffic stop.

Deputies say Jurrens was subsequently placed under arrest and charged with operating while intoxicated. He was also cited for unlawful golf cart operation.

This is the second time in the last few months that Lyon County deputies have arrested golf cart drivers for OWI. The first incident came on June 7th, when deputies arrested a man who was allegedly driving a golf cart under the influence. That incident happened in Alvord.

Earlier this summer, Lyon County Sheriff Stewart Vander Stoep announced that golf carts were getting “out of hand” on the street in Lyon County’s communities. Deputies say the resulting enforcement of statutes regarding golf carts led directly to the OWI arrests in June, and this past Saturday.
