The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office reports that about 12:45 AM, 20-year-old Ethan Schemmel of Larchwood was driving a 2002 Dodge Ram flatbed pickup northbound on Coolidge Avenue, about two miles south and two east of Larchwood, when they say he lost control and his pickup entered the west ditch.

The sheriff’s office reports Schemmel’s vehicle rolled two to three times and came to rest in a field on its roof. They say Schemmel was ejected from his vehicle and sustained serious injuries. Schemmel was transported to Sanford Rock Rapids and flown to Sanford Sioux Falls by Sanford AirMed.

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office reports that Lester Fire and Rescue, the Lyon County Ambulance crew, and Trackside Towing assisted them on the scene.

They say alcohol is suspected as being a factor, and the crash is still under investigation.
