Man Taken To Hospital After Crash Near George

George, Iowa — One man was taken to a hospital after an accident on an icy bridge south of George on Wednesday, November 6, 2019.

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office reports that about 6:40 a.m., Gary Lynn Grabill was southbound on Kennedy Avenue, a mile south of George in a 1995 Chevrolet Blazer when he encountered ice on the bridge. Grabill lost control of the SUV, which skidded across the roadway and entered the east ditch where it rolled several times before coming to rest on the passenger side.

Grabill was extricated using the Jaws of Life. The Lyon County Ambulance took him to Avera Merrill Pioneer Hospital in Rock Rapids. His injuries were described as “minor.”

The Sheriff’s Office says the vehicle was considered a total loss.

Lyon County Deputies report that the Iowa State Patrol, George Fire/Rescue, the Lyon County Ambulance Squad, and Warntjes Paint and Body assisted them with the response to the accident.
