Merrill Man Taken To Hospital After Hawarden Area Accident

Hawarden, Iowa — A Merrill man was taken to a hospital after an accident near Hawarden on Tuesday, October 8th.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that shortly after 11:50 a.m., 62-year-old Michael Holtz of Merrill was driving a 2011 Volvo semi-truck pulling a grain trailer northbound on Cherry Avenue, six miles north of Hawarden. They say that as he approached the intersection at 390th Street, he lost control of the vehicle on an eastbound curve in the roadway. The truck entered the north ditch and rolled.

The Volvo and trailer sustained approximately $50,000 in damage.

Holtz was cited on a charge of failure to maintain control of a motor vehicle.
