UPDATE: Names Released: One Person Dead As Result Of Car Versus Motorcycle Accident West Of Sioux Center

Sioux Center, Iowa — One person has died as the result of a motor vehicle accident between Sioux Center and Rock Valley late Sunday morning.

According to the Sioux County Sheriff’s office, emergency personnel were called to the scene on Elmwood Avenue or County Road K-30, six miles south of Rock Valley, shortly after 11:40 a.m.

They report that 19-year-old Dyson Kooima of Rock Valley was driving a 2006 Ford Fusion northbound on Elmwood Avenue. They report that 55-year-old Jana Haglund of Sioux Center was driving a 2007 Cobra Sunset motorcycle southbound on Elmwood Avenue. Haglund lost control of the motorcycle, entered the northbound lane, and struck the Kooima vehicle. Haglund was ejected from the motorcycle and entered the east ditch.

Haglund was pronounced dead as a result of her injuries. Kooima was transported by the Sioux Center Ambulance to Sioux Center Health for treatment of minor injuries.

The Ford sustained approximately $8,000 in damage. The Cobra sustained an estimated $2,000 in damage.

The sheriff’s office reports that the Iowa State Patrol, the Sioux Center Police Department, the Sioux Center Fire Department, and the Sioux Center Ambulance Squad assisted them with the response to the accident.

According to the Sioux County Sheriff’s office, emergency personnel were called to the scene on Elmwood Avenue or County Road K-30, six miles south of Rock Valley, shortly after 11:40 a.m.

They report that two vehicles; a motorcycle and a passenger car, were involved in the accident and one of the drivers died as a result of their injuries.

They tell us that names are being withheld pending notification of family, and that the accident remains under investigation.
