One Taken To Hospital, One Taken To Jail After Accident

Hospers, Iowa — One person ended up in a Sioux City hospital and another ended up in jail in the aftermath of an accident early on Saturday.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office tells us that 32-year-old Nicholas Harper of Portsmouth, Virginia was driving a 2010 Ford F-350 pickup northbound on Highway 60 a half-mile south of Hospers when he drove off the west side of the roadway, overcorrected, and lost control of the vehicle. The Ford rolled, coming to rest on its side on the roadway.

The Sheriff’s Office alleges that 26-year-old Patrick Kapa of Sheldon came to the scene of the accident, attempted to remove Harper from the area, and allegedly interfered with the accident investigation.

Harper was transported by the Hospers Ambulance to Orange City Area Health, and was later transported to Mercy Hospital in Sioux City for further medical attention.

Meanwhile, Kapa was arrested, transported to the Sioux County Jail, and was charged with interference with official acts.

The Ford sustained approximately $35,000 in damage.

The Sheriff’s office says the accident remains under investigation with the possibility of additional charges.

They tell us the Orange City Police Department, Orange City Ambulance Squad, Hospers Ambulance Squad and the Hospers Fire Department assisted with the response to the accident.
