Orange City Woman Taken To Hospital After Accident

Sioux Center, Iowa — An Orange City woman was taken to the hospital after an accident in Sioux Center on Saturday, February 1, 2020.

The Sioux Center Police Department reports that about 2:25 p.m., 24-year-old Austin Wynia of Sioux Center was driving a 2004 Chevy pickup southbound on Highway 75, in Sioux Center. Twenty-one-year-old Zachary Ringelberg of Orange City was northbound on 75 in a 2008 Honda, and nineteen-year-old Marissa Schiebout of Orange City was westbound on St. Andrews Way in a 2018 Chevy pickup.

The report says that Wynia had left a gas station and was southbound on Highway 75 when he realized his gas cap indicator light was on. Wynia pulled over to the shoulder of Highway 75 and exited his vehicle to check the gas cap. Wynia re-entered Highway 75 and entered the turn lane to make a left turn to travel on St. Andrew’s Way. Wynia advised he was lost in thought and flustered about the missing gas cap when he turned left from the turn lane to enter St. Andrew’s Way, failing to yield right of way upon making his left turn. Ringelberg’s oncoming van’s front made contact with the rear right of Wynia’s pickup, causing the rear of Wynia’s pickup to spin to the left and strike the front of Schiebout’s pickup, which was stopped at the stop sign on St. Andrew’s Way waiting to enter Highway 75.

The Sioux Center Ambulance took Schiebout to the Sioux Center Health Hospital.

Wynia’s Chevy pickup sustained $3500 in damages, Ringelberg’s Honda van sustained $5000 in damages, and Schiebout’s Chevy pickup sustained $5000 in damages.

Wynia was charged with failure to yield upon left turn.
