Pair Arrested On Drug Charges In Lyon County

George, Iowa — A Hospers woman and a George man face drug charges after an investigation Friday evening in George.

According to court records, shortly before 6:00 Friday evening, a Lyon County Deputy came into contact with a 2001 Chrysler Town & Country minivan at George gas station. Deputies say a passenger from the minivan, who they identify as 22-year-old Riley Wichers of Hospers, had active arrest warrants, and was taken into custody on those warrants.

In addition, court records indicate that, after obtaining a search warrant for the van, deputies discovered a backpack on the floor in front of the front passenger seat that Wichers claimed as hers. Deputies removed the backpack from the vehicle, and deployed a police K9 on it. Court records say the K9 gave a positive alert to illegal narcotic odor from the backpack. The deputy then obtained another search warrant for the backpack, which court records say contained two containers which contained marijuana residue, along with multiple items used to clean drug paraphernalia. Deputies say Wichers was later arrested and during the arrest additional items of drug paraphernalia were found, resulting in a charge of Possession of Marijuana, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, both misdemeanor charges, according to court records.

Once Wichers was taken to the Lyon County Jail, court records say another search was done of her property, and inside a side pocket of her pants, law enforcement located two razor blades that had marijuana odor and residue. As a result, Wichers was charged with Possession of Contraband In a Correctional Facility, which is a Class D Felony.

The driver of the vehicle, 19-year-old Walker Hollenbeck of George was arrested for 2nd Offense Possession of Methamphetamine, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. In addition, Hollenbeck had arrest warrants out of O’Brien County on charges of Interference With Official Acts, and Probation Violation, according to authorities.

Both Hollenbeck and Wichers were transported to the Lyon County Jail.
