Paullina Woman Hospitalized After Single-Vehicle Rollover Near Sanborn

Sanborn, Iowa — A Paullina woman was injured in a single-vehicle rollover crash near Sanborn Wednesday night, December 29th.

According to the accident report from the O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office, about 9:30 Wednesday night, a 2000 Jeep Cherokee, driven by 63-year-old Sarah Austin of Paullina was westbound on 330th Street when, deputies say, she appears to have failed to stop for the stop sign at the intersection with Roosevelt Avenue. The report notes that 330th Street turns into a gravel road just west of that intersection. Deputies say Austin lost control of her vehicle when she hit the gravel, which left the roadway to the right and rolled at least 1-1/2 times, coming to rest of its top.

According to the report, Austin was unable to speak following the mishap, and was transported by the Sanborn Ambulance to the Sanford Sheldon Medical Center. She was later transferred to Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, according to the accident report.

Deputies estimate damage to Austin’s Jeep at $12,000. She was reportedly cited for Failure to Maintain Control and Failure to Obey a Traffic Control Device.
