Sheldon, Iowa — A Hull man apparently blacked out while driving down 2nd Avenue in Sheldon late Wednesday afternoon.
According to the Sheldon Police Department, shortly after 4:00 Wednesday afternoon a 2012 Chevrolet pickup, owned by Rosenboom Machine & Tool in Sheldon, and driven by 64-year-old Perry Raman of Hull, was southbound on 2nd Avenue (Old 60) when the truck went out of control, crossed over the northbound lane, struck a No Parking sign and then struck a business sign at the southwest corner of the Cook’s Cafe and Langer’s parking lot.
According to police, Raman said he couldn’t remember what happened before losing control. A witness reportedly told police that Raman’s head was tilted forward at the time of the crash.
Police say Raman suffered what are described as minor injuries in the crash, and was taken for treatment by private vehicle.
Authorities estimate damage to the pickup at $20,000, or totally demolished. Damage to the Langer’s & Cook’s Cafe sign are estimated at $18,000, with damage to the No Parking sign, owned by the City of Sheldon estimated at $100.
Sheldon Police were assisted at the scene by the Sheldon Fire Company, Sheldon Community Ambulance Team, and Sheldon EMA.

Sheldon, Iowa — A pickup and a sign were both heavily damaged in a traffic crash late Wednesday afternoon near downtown Sheldon.
Shortly after 4:00 Wednesday afternoon Sheldon emergency services crews were called to the intersection of Business 60 and 8th Street, near Langer’s, to the report of a vehicle hitting a sign.
According to witnesses, a pickup had been southbound on Business 60 when it crossed the northbound lane and entered the parking lot at Langer’s, striking the Langer’s sign.
