Probation Violation Lands Sioux Center Woman In Prison

Orange City, Iowa — A 22-year-old Sioux Center woman was sentenced to prison Monday morning.

According to Sioux County Attorney Thomas Kunstle, 22-year-old Jennifer Gomez was sentenced to a two-year indeterminate prison term to be served at the Iowa Correctional Institution for Women in Mitchellville. The sentence is scheduled to begin on April 15, 2022.

According to Kunstle, Gomez was previously given probation on November 26, 2019, after entering a guilty plea to Distributing a Controlled Substance, Methamphetamine, to a Person under 18, a Class B Felony. He says Gomez failed to comply with probation but was given one more chance to participate in drug court in February of 2021. Gomez reportedly failed comply with any conditions of drug court, and was facing a 25-year indeterminate prison term.

Kunstle says that, in exchange for Gomez guilty plea to new charges, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Second Offence, in Sioux County Case, she received a two-year indeterminate prison term and the State agreed to not seek a 25-year term.
